As the world commemorates the fourth anniversary of Nelson Mandela’s death, the Nelson Mandela Foundation will today launch an event that will commemorate his centenary next year.
The foundation says an exhibition called Unthreading Mandela will seek to represent the former president’s hopes and aspirations through a series of narratives.
Mandela died on 5 December 2013.
“The exhibition represents Mandela as less iconic and more human and reveals how his extraordinary achievements were not born out of the stars but real, painful struggles,” the foundation said in a statement.
“The exhibition will also show some of the less known aspects of Mandela’s life.”
United Democratic Movement (UDM) Leader Bantu Holomisa will be the main speaker at the event.
Other notable speakers are foundation chairperson professor Njabulo Ndebele, CEO Sello Hatang and Minister Jeff Radebe, who is chairperson of the government’s Inter-Ministerial Committee on Nelson Mandela’s Centenary.
