Jaipur: Officials investigating the ‘hate’ murder case of Rajsamand have said the accused Shambulal Raigar was trying to mislead the police and people through his video clips. During interrogation, the accused told police that an incident that took place 10 years ago led him to commit the heinous murder on Wednesday. The police, however, found no substance in the claim.
According to police, in 2008 a labourer, identified as Dolly Bai (40), used to live in Raigar Basti of Rajsamand where Shambulal still lives. A man known as Ballu Sheikh alias Ballu Thekedar, a native of West Bengal, too lived in the same locality.
“Dolly Bai, who was separated from her husband and had a 14-year-old daughter, got into a live-in relationship with Ballu and started living in the latter’s house. Few months later, Ballu began a relation with Dolly’s 14-year-old daughter. The minor finally eloped with Ballu and stayed with him for 14 months,” said a senior police officer, who was part of Shambulal’s interrogation.
Dolly Bai, along with relatives and local police, went to Ballu’s house in West Bengal and managed to bring her daughter back. The minor daughter, however, stayed at her home for just three months and again eloped with Ballu. “That was when Dolly asked Shambulal to bring her daughter back and even gave him around Rs 10,000 for the task. When Shambulal reached West Bengal, he stayed at Ballu’s house but the girl declined to return,” a senior officer interrogating Shambulal told TOI on condition of anonymity.
“Some time later, the minor girl decided to return and called up Shambulal, who instead of taking the girl to her home, kept her in a rented house for 10 months and had physical relation with her,” the police officer added.
Investigators doubt Shambulal’s ‘love jihad’ rants. Another senior officer close to the investigations said, “He was sent as a saviour of the minor girl, but he had physical relations with her. This triggered a dispute between the girl’s mother and the culprit. The accused has admitted all the incidents,” the officer said.
“Had he been threatened by the victim as claimed by Shambulal in the video clips, he would have approached the police for protection. But he never did that,” the officer added.
