Celebrations at Maher | Sakal Times
Maher Ashram, a non-governmental organisation established and run by Sister Lucy Kurien completed 20 years on February 5. It was a big occasion for Sr Lucy, her team and the Maher family which saw big dignitaries attending the celebrations.
Former President of India, Pratibha Patil, chairperson, Lila Poonawalla Foundation, Lila Poonawalla and eminent Buddhist nun Jetsunma Tenzin Palmo attended the event on Sunday at Maher, Vatsalyadham, Avhalwadi, Wagholi.
The NGO has been helping destitute women, children and men, irrespective of gender, caste, creed or religion, from across India. With centres in Maharashtra, Kerala and Jharkhand, Maher has 900 children and 300 women under its care. It is also engaged in extensive charitable work in rural areas in these states and slum areas of Pune.
Recently, it launched an Interfaith Community. The mission is to serve humankind, regardless of diverse religious faiths or beliefs. Any adult who is drawn to the concept of loving and respecting every religion and is concerned about the suffering of humans, can become a part of this community.
