It serves the BJP’s interests if AIADMK stays united: Murlidhar Rao
Murlidhar Rao, convenor of the BJP’s affairs in Tamil Nadu, has said that it would only serve the party’s interests in the State if the AIADMK stays united.
“It is for the factions of the AIADMK to take things ahead by hastening the process of merger. They would do well to set their house in order at the earliest,” Rao said while speaking to newsmen in Chennai. Rao’s comments assume significance as it was rumuored in sections of the press that the Centre was thinking of recommending President’s rule in the State in view of the prevailing political instability.
It was also pointed by a few political observers that it was the BJP, which rules at the Centre and which is desperate to gain a foothold in Tamil Nadu, which has been ‘happy’ keeping the AIADMK factions away from watch other. It is in this backdrop that Rao has asserted that the BJP always wanted to deal with a ‘united’ AIADMK.
“AIADMK has, over the years, been supportive of all endeavours of the BJP and as such, we won’t be affected if the factions (of AIADMK) unite. In fact, it would only serve our own interests if the merger occurs sooner than later,” Rao concluded.
