New Delhi, Nov 8 (UNI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday assured additional fuel supply to Sri Lanka as the island nation facing severe shortage of petroleum.

"In the telephone conversation with Sri Lankan President @MaithripalaS, PM @narendramodi conveyed that India is sending additional fuel to Sri Lanka and assured India's continued support for development cooperation," the Prime Minister's Office tweeted on Wednesday night.

Following the petroleum crisis, the state-owned Ceylon Petroleum Corporation and Lanka IOC, Indian Oil's subsidiary in Sri Lanka were blamed responsible for the situation.

Some Sri Lankan politicians and a section of the media voiced strong criticism against the company for “being responsible” for the crisis that has gripped the country since Friday.

But the company dismissed as "mischievous and factually incorrect" the allegations that it was responsible for the fuel shortage in the country.
