Boost agriculture growth, improve image of Bihar: President
President Ram Nath Kovind today asked Bihar to make concerted efforts to boost agriculture growth for improving its image as state had the potential to be destination of next green revolution.
Mr Kovind while launching the third phase of Bihar Agriculture Road Map with proposed investment of Rs 1.54 lakh, for the period 2017-22 here at a function, said the state had potential to be next destination of green revolution and its image should be built with concerted efforts of all particularly those having responsibility to execute it.
Mr Kovind who was Governor of Bihar before his elevation to top constitutional post of the country, said evolution could be brought in agriculture sector in Bihar if its water resources were properly managed and harnessed.
President in his maiden visit to Bihar after assuming the office said he was happy to note that out of 9 programmes launched, 4 of them were related to water management. Traditional water sources were required to be recharged as the state government was also reviving ahar-pyne systems in the state, he stated.
Mr Kovind said that schemes under Namami Ganga project were being implemented in the state in right earnest for clean and uninterrupted flow of Ganga water. Bihar had been the prominent Centre of agriculture since beginning and agriculture university was set up at Pusa in Samastipur district way back in 1905, he added.
