Health department focussing on seasonal diseases: Kamineni

Summary: Health Minister Kamineni Srinivas said the Department of Health, Medical and Family Welfare was instructed by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu to study the different types of seasonal diseases and their spatial distribution and to spread awareness among people on hereditary diseases, to achieve better health outcomes. He said a new sanitation policy would be shortly implemented in 150 community health centres on a pilot basis. Addressing mediapersons at the Secretariat on Thursday, Mr. Srinivas said the department was roping in knowledge partners for effectively combating the diseases which imposed a huge socio-economic burden on society. Due priority was being given to equipping the 108 ambulances with the required facilities to ensure that lives are not lost during transit to hospitals. Tenders were likely to be finalised for the establishment of a centre of the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) in Uddhanam region of Srikakulam district on November 10, he added.

The Minister said a sum of ?167 crore was needed to augment the facilities in 11 government hospitals under the purview of Director of Medical Education to enable them to comply with the norms of the National Accreditation Board for Hospitals and Healthcare Providers for getting its recognition. According to the Newspaper,Srinivas said he would be meeting the officials of the Medical Council of India again in Delhi on November 13 to find a solution to the plight of students of Fatima Medical College. Tenders were likely to be finalised for the establishment of a centre of the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) in Uddhanam region of Srikakulam district on November 10, he added.. . .
