Micromax launches its new budget smartphone, Bharat 5, in India

In a press meetup at the Micromax headquarters in Gurgaon, Micromax announced the launch of the next generation smartphone in its budget smartphone series – Bharat.  The Micromax Bharat 5 is company’s latest in the series. …

The Indian consumer electronics company just launched its latest device in India. The Canvas Infinity Pro not only features a 5.7-inch HD display (720 x 1440) in an all-new 18:9 aspect ratio, but also Snapdragon 430, 4 GB of RAM, 64 GB of internal storage, and a 3,000 mAh battery. All of that for Rs. 13,999, or approximately US$217. The company claims that the display provides up to 450 nits of brightness and the battery delivers 20 hours of talk time or 420 hours of standby time on a single charge. Pretty standard.

Things become more interesting when it comes to the cameras found on the Canvas Infinity Pro. While on the back, there is a single-lens 16-megapixel sensor with an LED flash, the front sports two camera sensors: one at 20 megapixels and a secondary sensor at 8 megapixels. Micromax says that the camera app will come preloaded with features like portrait mode, face beauty mode, and auto scene detection. If it wasn’t clear before, the Canvas Infinity Pro is aimed directly at selfie-lovers who might be looking for a phone with an advanced front-facing camera and a reasonable price tag.

The Canvas Infinity Pro is by no means a high-end “pro” device, but it’s not intended to be one, as Shubhodip Pal the CCO at Micromax explains:

We understand that in the mid-premium range smartphones, consumers demand a complete package – a smartphone that has best in class cameras, a screen that is large enough for content viewing, a battery that doesn’t drain in a day and of course aesthetics that are a head turner. We truly believe that Infinity Pro is that package and our consumers will be delighted with the pricing as well. We are known to bring revolutionary products within the range of millions of Indians and this is another step in that direction.
