BJP workers gherao Agartala West Police Station
Agartala: The state BJP unit on Tuesday gheraoed 50 police stations across the state in protest against the deteriorating law and order in the state. The state level protest was led by state president Biplab Deb in front of Agartala west police station.
Deb blamed the CPI(M)-led state government to curb violence in the state and cited the murder of two journalists in the past two months as an example of state government's failure to handle the situation.
He also alleged that the police force is acting on behalf of the CPI(M) and said that FIRs are not registered in several cases. He asked the police to discharge duties according to the constitution and reminded of future protests if FIRs are not registered.
Deb also charged CPI(M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury of indicting BJP against the murder of journalist Santanu Bhowmik in a tweet.
