The Karnataka Cricket Association (KSCA) had already written to the BCCI to release KL Rahul after he was not included in the playing XI for the Kotla Test. Since he is not in the ODI squad for the series against Sri Lanka as well, he could have played the game before joining the squad for T20I series. But chances of team management releasing the batsman are unlikely.

On another hand, Umesh Yadav is carrying a niggle and shoulder strain, as per a report in Sportstar, which automatically puts him out of contention for Vidarbha’s quarterfinal tie.

Both the players are expected to visit NCA before KL Rahul joins the national squad for the T20I series against Sri Lanka.

It is expected that the Test specialist players might be sent to South Africa few days before start of Test series. So Umesh Yadav could travel to the country earlier, while the limited-overs series between India and Sri Lanka will be on.

In the first and second quarterfinals, Delhi will face Madhya Pradesh while Bengal will face defending champions Gujarat respectively.

Mumbai have got a relief ahead of the quarterfinal as Prithvi Shaw, the India U19 captain has been allowed to play the Ranji Trophy game and will be joining the camp at NCA post the completion of the game. Bengal pacer Ishan Porel has also been allowed to play Ranji Trophy and he, along with his captain will be joining the camp later.

The Mumbai and Karnataka game will be telecasted on TV, the only televised game of this round.
