Apple developing 6.1-inch LCD iPhone with metal back case
Rumours of Apple’s next-generation iPhones are already floating around and a new report suggests that Apple is planning to release a more affordable iPhone model next year.
But it seems that Apple is not ready to bid farewell to LCD screens yet. According to Nikkei, the Cupertino based tech giant is working on a 6.1-inch handset with LCD an display instead of an OLED panel. The next-generation iPhone will also feature a metal back, like the iPhone 7.
“The 6.1-inch LCD model will likely sport a metal back (like older iPhone handsets) that will come in several colours. The two OLED handsets will come in two sizes — one either 6.2 or 6.3-inches long and the other 5.8 inches,” Nikkei said.
However, this new LCD iPhone could be seen in Apple’s new colour schemes such as Silver, Space Gray and Gold. The next-generation LCD iPhone is expected to cost less than the iPhone X as the company will also be introducing a new OLED model at around 6.5-inches as per Ming-Chi-Kuo.
Last month, Kuo predicted that Apple will launch three new iPhones in 2018, consisting of 5.5-inch and 6.1-inch model along with a giant 6.5-inch screen model. Kuo believes that Apple is looking to incorporate a lower resolution display and target low-end and mid-range markets with an estimated $649 to $749 starting price.
As of now, it is not clear whether Apple is willing to take LCD model with a metal body or remove the new feature from future iPhones.
