Spices Board India organises QITP at Pampore

PAMPORE: Spices Board India organised a training programme under the rubric ‘Quality Improvement Training Programme (QITP)’ for saffron and chilly at Central Sericultural Research and Training Institute at Galander Pampore in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district.
The main purpose of saffron park located near Dusoo village in Pampore is to enhance quality so that it could fetch foreign currencies.
Deputy Director Spices Board of India who was the chief guest on the occasion informed the farmers who had come to attend the training programme as to how to maintain quality of saffron.
“The training programe was all about training farmers for maintaining quality and high standard so that their produce would make an entry in international market.
“The quality should be the maximum and the produce must be able to attract international market,” he said, adding that the best saffron was produced in Kashmir and it should not get wasted.
He also said that farmers need to learn the techniques that are required for better production.
President Saffron Growers Association Abdul Majid Wani said that the training was beneficial and would bring crop to those who implement the techniques imbibed here in their fields.
He also said that government of India has supported the cause of farmers which was quite appreciable.
It is pertinent to mention that the production has been very low from last few years and this year due to scanty rainfall the production has reached to nadir.
Even some farmers have decided to sell the land as it fetches good price while others have decided to convert it for residential purposes.
