Traffic resumes on Srinagar-Leh road
Ganderbal: Traffic on the 434-km-long national highway, linking the Ladakh region with Kashmir, was resumed on Thursday after remaining suspended for several hours due to fresh snowfall.
A traffic police official told kashmir Reader traffic that traffic on the highway was suspended on Wednesday evening following fresh snowfall at Zojilla pass.
“The road had become slippery due to snowfall. However after improvement in the weather, the snow melted and road become operational, “he said.
Officials said that around two dozen vehicles stranded in Zojila area were evacuated by the traffic authorities on Thursday afternoon after which light motor vehicles were allowed to move from Sonamrag to Drass.
Meanwhile Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Baseer Ahmad Khan said Leh- Srinagar shall remain closed for
for vehicular traffic in view of the snowfall in higher reaches and slippery road condition on either side of Zojila Pass.
The Srinagar-Sonamarg-Gumri road (Zojila Pass), which connects Kashmir valley with the Ladakh region, will remain closed from December 10, 2017 for all types of vehicles until further notice, he said.
