Two people, including an engineering college student, from the city drowned while taking selfies in a waterfall near Tada in Andhra Pradesh on Monday afternoon, and their friends who were bringing the bodies in two motor bikes, were caught by the police on the Chennai-Tirupati Highway last night.

Police said three friends, who had accompanied the deceased, placed one of the bodies between the rider and pillion rider; and tied the other, also in a seated position, to one of the youth riding the second bike and left for Chennai without informing the Andhra police. When patrol police intercepted them during vehicle checks on the Chennai-Tirupati highway, they tried to dodge them, when the bodies fell off the motorbikes.

The trio told the police that they were having fun at the waterfall, taking selfies when Yaswanth Bhagwan Singh (19), an engineering student and a native of Kolathur in Chennai, slipped and fell.

One of the friends Yasin (30), who tried to rescue Yaswanth, also met with the watery grave. Police have informed their family members and shifted both the bodies to a government hospital for autopsy. Yaswanth have also uploaded the selfies taken at the waterfalls.
