Netflix has the revealed the two actresses which will step into the shoes of Yennefer and Ciri for Netflix’s The Witcher TV series. Yennefer and Ciri are two of the most prominent characters in The Witcher universe and are set to feature in starring roles for the series.

Freya Allan (The War of the Worlds, Into the Badlands) and Anya Chalotra (Wanderlust, The ABC Murders) will play Ciri and Yennefer respectively. Neither of the actresses are household names, for now, at least.

As the Netflix series is based upon on the books rather than CD Projekt RED’s games, all of the characters are around seven years younger than they are The Witcher 3. That explains why 17-year-old Freya Allan has been cast as Ciri. She looks a lot younger than we’ve come to expect from The Witcher games but this does fit in with the timeline.

Yennefer, meanwhile, will be played by Anya Chalotra, and she will of course be the love interest of the titular witcher himself - Geralt of Rivia. As we know already, Geralt will be played by Superman actor Henry Cavill.

“We needed to create our own visual representation,” said showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich to The Hollywood Reporter. “As I’ve been developing the series I’ve actually pulled back from playing the video games because I wanted to make sure the show we were creating was its own unique thing.”

The script for season one of the Netflix TV The Witcher TV series is done and dusted and production is set to begin soon.
