Rohit Shetty is back, but whether with a bang or not will be decided once his film Simmba hits theatres on December 28. The trailer of Simmba starring Ranveer Singh and Sara Ali Khan was released on December 3 amidst a lot of media hype. After seeing the video, the first thought that crossed my mind is a dialogue by Mark Wahlberg’s Charlie from The Italian Job – “You've got no imagination.” Yes, Rohit Shetty seems to really have got no imagination when it comes to Simmba. Simmba Trailer: Ranveer Singh and Sara Ali Khan's Cop Film Gives Off Major Singham Blues, With a Spoilerish Ajay Devgn Cameo Thrown In Too - Watch Video.

1. Simmba Looks Like a Love Child of Singham and Dabangg

While the film claims to be an official remake of 2015 Telugu film, Temper, the trailer looks like a cross between Ajay Devgn’s Singham and Salman Khan’s Dabangg. It is sheer laziness on the part of filmmakers and writers. The lead hero of Simmba, Ranveer has copied everything from Devgn’s Inspector Bajirao Singham – the handlebar moustache, black aviators, bronzed-up muscular physic, and the slow-mo running. But unlike an honest and dedicated Singham and much like a corrupt Chulbul Pandey, Rohit’s latest hero is a money-minded yet funny police officer. Simmba Trailer: Not Just Ajay Devgn's Singham, 3 More Bollywood Movies That Ranveer Singh and Sara Ali Khan's Film Promo Reminded Us Of!

Also, Rohit owes a big apology to Ranveer. The actor who has been playing eclectic roles have been just reduced to a love child of Bajirao Singham and Chulbul Pandey, two of the most iconic characters in recent years.

2. Cliché 80s Plot Using Rape to Awaken a Hero’s Morals

In the 80s and 90s, numerous films revolved around the plot of rape and murder. These heroes became avengers of the heinous acts.  With Simmba, Rohit Shetty revives this cliched plot. The trailer shows Ranveer, the antihero becoming a good cop after his muhboli behen gets raped and killed!

3. Is Sonu Sood Not Tired of Portraying The Same Character Again and Again?

Sonu Sood in R...Rajkumar, Simmba and Dabangg (Film Stills)

Sonu Sood, you brilliant, brilliant actor, please stop wasting your talent like this! Once again, he plays the baddie – a powerful, rowdy antagonist in Simmba. And it will remind you of his earlier roles from Dabangg and R... Rajkumar. There is no problem in Sonu Sood playing a villain, but all his characters end up looking and sounding the same. For God’s sake, check out Amrish Puri’s filmography and learn a thing or two about playing distinct villain roles. Mogambo in Mr India, Indrajit Chaddha in Damini or Bishambar Nath in Ram Lakhan were all different and iconic characters played by the same actor.

4. Where is Sara Ali Khan?

Sara Ali Khan (Film Stills)

She appears in five scenes (one of my colleagues counted it, just to be precise) and has one dialogue that made no sense. And in those scenes, she makes a fleeting appearance as the romantic interest of Ranveer Singh. We get a glimpse of a glamorous dance number, and that’s it. With so much of hype around Sara bagging this big project, her presence (or lack of it) in the trailer proves to be a dampener. What Is Sara Ali Khan’s Real Age? What is Not Annoying About Simmba – AJAY DEVGN

Almost three mins extended trailer did not have a single original idea or scene…except the commanding presence of Ajay Devgn! Yes, the original Singham is making a cameo in this film, and probably it is the only good thing about the trailer. The opening scene of Simmba had a montage of scenes from Singham film. And the video ended with Ajay Devgn making a fantastic appearance. You will love him and wish the entire trailer was about him.
