Why Meghan Markle just had a secret meeting at a London uni
Meghan Markle has made no secret of the fact that she’s a feminist, and she used her first tour speech to address the importance of girls’ education earlier this year. She told university students at the University of the South Pacific: ‘As a university graduate, I know the personal feeling of pride and excitement that comes with attending university.
‘From the moment you receive your acceptance letter to the exams you spend countless late nights studying for, the lifelong friendships you make with your fellow alumni to the moment that you receive your diploma, the journey of higher education is an incredible, impactful and pivotal one.
‘I am also fully aware of the challenges of being able to afford this level of schooling for many people around the world, myself included.’
It was also revealed that Meghan decided to write the speech herself, which is unusual for the royals who usually employ help to pen the perfect speech.
Earlier this week, she met with Michelle Obama to talk about how to advance girls’ education, and following their meet-up Meghan had a super secret meeting with the Association of Commonwealth Universities at Kings College London. According to reports, she discussed ‘human trafficking and modern slavery, gender equality and inclusion, peace and reconciliation, and climate change and resilience.’
A tweet from The ACU announced the meeting, sharing a photo of Meghan with other academics captioned: ‘Today we brought together university leaders, academics & #students to discuss how we can build a better world through #highered. We were honoured to be joined by HRH The Duchess of Sussex. Thanks to @KingsCollegeLon for hosting!’
The fact that the meeting was kept quiet until it actually happened just goes to show that Meghan is committed to the cause, both publicly and privately.
Could we love her any more?!
