Reena Datta's group exhibition to open
Artist Reena Datta will be exhibiting some of her paintings in Bandra from Monday onwards. Reena is part of a group show called ‘Blending Palettes’ which also features artists Farhat Datta, who happens to be her sister-in-law and Laxmi Honavar. Says Reena, who will exhibit her still life and landscapes at the show: “I find still life an easier genre to paint because I can do it at any given point of day, within the comfort of four walls. For the landscapes, I usually have to travel outdoors.” She adds that at ‘Blending Palettes’ she will be showcasing a mix of large-sized and smaller works. Reena, who holds down a full-time job as COO of ex-husband Aamir Khan’s Paani Foundation, which trains Maharashtrian villagers in rainwater harvesting, has been juggling her passion for art with her job. But as she says: “Art is my mainstay. But it’s also pretty amazing to be able to help train and motivate villagers from 4,025 villages in Maharashtra in water conservation.” With regard to her art, Reena adds that she is finding herself more drawn to abstractionism as the years pass by and that her colour palette is also undergoing a transformation. “But I shall wait until the exhibition opens, for people who have been following my art to tell me how they perceive the difference,” she says. For those who might want to view the works they will be up on display at the Peacock Life gallery, Turner Road from 10-15 December, 11am-8pm.
