JAMMU: Former minister and senior Congress leader Sham Lal Sharma Thursday appreciated his party leadership for extending support to the bill granting 10 % reservation for poor in general category.
Addressing a public meeting at Panchayat Gharatal in Akhnoor, Sharma said that the Congress party supported this bill keeping in view the interest of common masses and above party politics. He further said that whenever BJP was in opposition, they did politics even on the issues relating to common people.
Sham said the people are happy with Congress party for extending support to this bill. He further said that in the past also, the Congress Government brought this type of bill in the past but was not implemented because of SC ruling. He said it is question that how much the effected people will be benefited with this bill. In the absence of job avenues, this bill will not be of much help to the common poor man. He urged the Government to open job avenues so that the poor people are able to take benefit of this reservation quota.
Congress leader further said that it will be futile to derive benefit of 10% reservation unless and until job opportunities are opened. He said that Modi Government had miserably failed to provide employment to unemployed youths across the country. He said the Govt's decision on quota should not be politicized.
The people of the area voiced their concern about the non- availability of basic amenities like improved of dilapidated roads, non- availability of water, electricity, ration etc. They further said that the role of erstwhile Govt was worst period for Jammu. People heaved a sigh of relief since the BJP Govt was suspended. Sharma extended his gratitude to the newly elected Sarpanch Ajit Kumar for making elaborate arrangements to make this function a success.
