School students to sacrifice hair for a worthy cause
ASCOT State School has registered a team, Amazing Ascot, in this month’s World’s Greatest Shave, raising much needed funds for the Leukaemia Foundation. Team Amazing Ascot, consisting of eight primary school students and two teachers, Rachel Winter and Team Captain Carly Butler have a fundraising goal of $10,000. So far, they’ve raised more than $8000.

There are three Year Six girls on the team who will lose their treasured ponytails and will be sporting drastically new hairstyles for their end of year graduation. The girls; Isabelle, Niah and Grace, have been out and about collecting donations for the Leukaemia Foundation, and our local community has been very receptive and supportive and we are so appreciative of their generosity.
Isabelle’s grandad unfortunately lost his battle with Chronic Lymphoid Leukaemia when she was only one, knowing this makes her terribly sad particularly when thinking about her own father. Niah and Grace feel strongly that they “want to help people with Leukaemia to get better so they can be with their families who love them”.

Isabelle, Niah and Grace have enjoyed interacting with the locals and raising awareness about leukaemia. When asked by local supporters if they are worried about losing their hair, they reply “we are a little nervous, we don’t know what we will look like with short hair, but we know that we are doing this for a really good cause”. Isabelle, Niah and Grace would like to thank all of the people in our community who have kindly donated and offered words of support.
Ms Winter and the boys will be going all in and sacrificing the lot, with a run of the clippers all over. Two local hairdressers have generously offered to do the deed.
Cheering and applause from fellow students and staff is expected to drown the hall as the members of team Amazing Ascot ‘shave the world’ on Friday 22 March.
