B.C. and Ontario police have announced charges against a New Westminster man for alleged sexual assault involving female children.

The New Westminster Police Department (NWPD) stated on April 3 that 33-year-old Wesley William Clarkson, who is in custody, was arrested after an investigation into the allegations.

Clarkson is facing five counts of sexual assault in B.C. and five counts of touching a person under 16 years of age for sexual purposes in B.C.

According to court documents, six charges relate to alleged incidents in New Westminster from September 2008 to February 2009. Two offences are from alleged incidents in January 2010 in Penticton, B.C., and two more are from September 2010 in Naramata, B.C.

Clarkson appeared in court on March 27 and he is next scheduled to appear in provincial court in New Westminster on April 10.

According to NWPD spokeperson Sgt. Jeff Scott, investigators believe there could be more victims who have not yet spoken with police.

“The victims of these alleged offences are all girls who were under the age of 10 years old at the time,” Sgt. Scott stated in a news release. “Mr. Clarkson has been convicted of similar offences in the past in Ontario.”

Anyone who may have been allegedly assaulted by Clarkson is asked to contact NWPD Det. Michelle White at 604-529-2536 or a local police department.

Meanwhile, the Windsor Police Service (WPS) announced today (April 4) that Clarkson also faces charges in Ontario.

On March 27, the WPS launched an investigation into child abuse. The alleged offences are believed to have taken place between February 1 and March 12 in Windsor.

Clarkson was identified as the suspect, and he was an acquaintance of the victim’s family and friends. Clarkson, who has ties to Windsor, was charged with sexual assault, sexual interference, invitation to sexual touching, probation breach, and prohibition order breach.

Anyone with information about these Ontario incidents is asked to contact the WPS at 519-255-6700 (ext. 4830) or Crime Stoppers at 519-258-8477.

In December 2015 in Wallaceburg, Ontario, Chatham-Kent police arrested Clarkson, who had worked as a babysitter, for three counts of sexual assault, three counts of sexual interference, and one count of an indecent act.

Additional charges were laid in January 2016 for accessing and possession of child pornography for a total of 11 offences involving four children, according to reports. He was released on bail under conditions in March 2016.
