Chennai: First ever photo of black hole inspires a meme-fest on Twitter
In what is being considered a significant milestone on the path to understanding the universe, scientists have managed to capture the first ever photo of a supermassive black hole. But for some on Twitter, these lofty ideas held no importance - they were more immediately concerned with cracking jokes at the black hole’s expense. Soon after the black hole image was released online, netizens flooded social media with memes and jokes. While many found the pic a little underwhelming, others compared it to a vada, doughnut, Eye of Sauron from Lord Of The Rings, etc. The black hole image shows the boundary between light and dark around a black hole, called the event horizon.

What does today's black hole image news mean? Our @ChandraXRay Observatory team puts it into perspective and shares just what a difficult feat it was for @NSF and @EHTelescope to obtain the new black hole image. Read more about #EHTBlackHole: https://t.co/s9xoxt8l3Spic.twitter.com/TQD8HSdbGG

Ben Stokes pulls off a Jonty Rhodes to dismiss Kedar Jadhav during RR vs CSK tie
Ben Stokes, the English all-rounder who was bought on by the Rajasthan Royals for a stiff Rs 14.5 crore had a rather mediocre stint so far this IPL season. Till Thursday that is. In the match against Chennai Super Kings where his team was defending a modest 151, the pressure was clearly on the home team to snap some quick wickets. That is when Stokes grabbed a blinder to get Kedhar Jadhav out. Such was the catch that many took to social media to pun on the famous ‘neither a bird nor a plane’ like from Superman, while a few others compared him with the top goalkeeper, David de Gea. What took the cake was the one where a cheetah leaping high to catch a bird, comparing the effort to that of Stokes’s.

Still thinking about that catch by Stokes! 😍#HallaBol#RRvCSK#RRpic.twitter.com/NOgZKHYMzn

'Cat person’ finds puppy in a ditch and adopts him
A woman identified as Tegan shared a heartwarming story of adopting an abandoned puppy. She also said that she was a cat person and shared a picture of the puppy meeting her cat named King. Tegan found the puppy on the cold rural streets of Wisconsin while travelling to work. A Marine Corps veteran explained how she took the 10-pound pup into work with her but knew she couldn’t stick around, so gathered her things and took him home. After calling the authorities she learned that the dog’s name was Larry and he had siblings at the Forest County Humane shelter nearby. She reunited him with his sisters who Larry was delighted to see. Then, Tegan adopted the puppy and took him home.
