It doesn’t matter who you are and what you do. If you have a smartphone in your hand (who doesn’t?!), you’re going to order food online. It’s not a mandate – not yet, at least – but in this ever-expanding nation of ours, trust that someone somewhere is always ordering food. Speaking of ordering food online, one of the leaders in the food delivery market, Zomato, recently released its FY 19 report and it is filled with insights on everything Indians are eating, obviously from what they’ve ordered online.

Here are all the highlights from Zomato’s report that are interesting, insightful and most definitely eye-catching.

Highlights from the Zomato FY19 report

  1. Manipal ranks as the highest in delivery frequency across India
  2. In western India, Ahmedabad sees the most amount of deliveries
  3. Jammu is the city in North India with the most amount of fast food orders
  4. Not Mumbai (shocker!) but Indore is the city with the most midnight deliveries
  5. The highest ever bill for last year for a food delivery was ₹1,84,760 – the order was for 415 boxes and came from an address in Jaipur
  6. The second highest order was from Lucknow – the bill amount was for ₹16,800
  7. A Zomato delivery guy actually traveled by boat to deliver food on the other side of river Brahmaputra in Guwahati
  8. Chicken Biryani is the most ordered dish not in Delhi but in Madurai
  9. Hyderabad’s famous restaurant Bawarchi receives around 2000 orders a day on Zomato and it’s a common sight to have the app’s delivery guys queue up outside the restaurant to pick up those orders

On a more serious note, as part of the report, Zomato has registered a total revenue of $206 million. It crossed an annual run-rate GMV of over $1.5 billion and registered more than 30 million deliveries in March’19 according to the FY 19 report.

Clearly, Indians aren’t stopping ordering food online anytime soon.
