Alleging a “deliberate delay” in registration of an FIR in the Alwar gangrape case for political gains in the ongoing Lok Sabha elections, the BJP today demanded the resignation of Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot.

“The Alwar gangrape case, a heinous crime which shook the nation, was kept under wraps for six days for political gains, hence, Gehlot, who used to say ‘har galti, kimat mangati hai’ (every mistake requires a price) should resign being the state Chief Minister and Home Minister,” Union HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar, who is also the BJP’s state election incharge, told medipersons here.

On April 26, a 19-year-old Dalit woman, who was going with her husband on a motorcycle, was allegedly chased by the five persons and gang-raped in the rocky areas of Alwar. The accused were arrested on May 6 after the case was lodged on May 2.

A huge number of people today gathered at Dausa Railway Station in support of the victim, following BJP MP Kirodi Lal Meena’s call for a public march from Dausa to Jaipur. — OC
