The Duke of Edinburgh celebrated his birthday this week, turning 98 years old on Monday.

Coming just days after the Queen’s official birthday celebrations, Trooping the Colour, it’s hardly surprising that Prince Philip’s celebrations were low key, but his loved ones did still give the royal a very sweet nod.

’The Duke of Edinburgh was born on this day in 1921,’ the Royal Family Twitter account posted alongside a black and white photograph of the royal. ‘In this picture His Royal Highness was photographed in 1952, 66 years ago.’

And so followed the sweet tributes from the rest of the Mountbatten-Windsors.

‘Wishing a very Happy 98th birthday to His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh,’ Prince William and Kate Middleton posted to their social media, alongside a series of photographs of the Cambridges alongside Philip.

The Sussexes also wished Philip a public birthday greeting, posting a smiling photo of Harry and his grandfather, captioned: ‘Wishing His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh, Sir, Grandpa a very Happy 98th Birthday.’

Even Prince Charles and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, got involved in the social media love for Prince Philip, posting a throwback photo of a young prince Charles and his dad holding hands.

‘Happy 98th Birthday to HRH The Duke of Edinburgh. #HappyBirthdayHRH,’ read the caption. ‘A two-year-old Prince Charles holds The Duke’s hand after greeting his father following his return home from a trip to Malta in 1951.’

‘Happy Birthday to HRH The Duke of Edinburgh,’ Princess Eugenie posted to her Instagram. ‘I found a couple of classic photographs of Grandpa and I on Christmas Day and Trooping the Colour a few years ago now.’

We hope Prince Philip had a very happy birthday!
