EWS quota: Karnataka loses 630 medical seats
As State Government has still not initiated the process of introducing Economically Weaker Section (EWS) quota for MBBS and BDS colleges in 2019-20 academic year, Karnataka has missed out on receiving additional 630 MBBS seats this year under the quota from Medical Council of India. The State Government is yet to study the modalities of the Union Government’s newly introduced quota system.
This has disappointed not only the aspirants of these courses in the State, but also upset the State Other Backward Classes Forum. The Forum President, K.S. Shivaramu said, “If the Government had implemented this quota, Karnataka might have got additional MBBS seats, which could have helped ease the scarcity of doctors.
But the State has failed to make use of this benefit when Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) had just completed final rounds of seat allotment for admissions to medical and dental colleges for this academic year.”
