Chattarpur: Every corner of this luxurious, expansive farmhouse speaks of maximalism
Dazzling finishes, opulent elements and a feeling of pure luxury wafts through spaces in this home designed by Beyond Designs
Minimal decor isn’t something Sachin and Neha Gupta, co-owners of Beyond Designs, a design studio on Delhi’s Mehrauli-Gurgaon Road, are thrilled by. “In a country with such a rich art and design heritage, it would be foolish to go for a minimal look. Also, today’s well-travelled customer would want influences from around the globe to enliven their homes,” Sachin says.
Chattarpur Farmhouse: Signature Style
Over the past 18 years, Beyond Designs has been elevating spaces with their luxurious, richly-layered and sumptuously furnished interiors. Their most recent project, a farmhouse in New Delhi’s upscale Chattarpur neighbourhood, is no different. Built in a modern style, the 16,000-square-feet home still has a vintage vibe channeling the neoclassical era. Their signature luxe style is evident through rich and complex layering and opulent accents—a melange of cut glass and mirror-work, bricbracs and souvenirs.
Chattarpur Farmhouse: India-International
The interiors showcase European influences coupled with contemporary Indian touches. The ground floor is occupied by the double-height atrium and central foyer, living room, dining room, cigar den and a winding staircase. The stairs were redone using wood and gilt edges, with brass lights hanging from the ceiling to enhance the grandeur.
Chattarpur Farmhouse: Marvelous Maximalism
The living room at the back of the house is clad in wall-to-ceiling glass windows offering a glimpse of the outside greenery. The elegant, classic European furniture and contemporary art creates a soothing environment. Also opening into the back garden is the bar room with a dramatic design scheme. Dazzling cut-mirror and golden bar and, pop-out yellow chairs against a dark background pump up the glamour quotient. “It is a vibrant space tailor-made to suit a young married couple and their lifestyle that includes lots of entertaining,” avers Sachin.Dazzling cut-mirror and a golden bar up the glamour quotient of the home
The cigar den and library has Art Deco wood paneling on the walls, a wood and leather ceiling and a cosy fireplace. A carved wooden sofa with quilted leather upholstery in tan and a Louis Vuitton leather chest—a gift from the couple’s parents—add to the old world charm.
Chattarpur Farmhouse: Surreal Sophistication
The dining space has a deep aubergine ceiling and a stone-top dining table with cut mirror base. Tall, ornate candelabras, a collection of paintings, large mirrors with antique gold finish form the accents. The back garden houses the pool, a gazebo with all the frills of a barbecue zone—a teppanyaki griddle, a wood fire stove for firing pizzas and a grill.
The first floor houses a family den with a small pantry and four bedrooms including the master suite. The master bedroom is done up mostly in mirror-clad furniture and is full of opulent touches. The bathroom again has rich marble flooring, mirror tiles and large wall mirrors to spell boudoir sophistication. “All the art pieces and sculptures used were also custom-created or sourced by Beyond Designs. The upholstery came from Beyond Designs Home. Except the hanging lights in the atrium, all the lights and chandeliers were also envisioned by us,” says Sachin.
