Players Take a Knee as NBA Season Resumes in Orlando 'Bubble'

Players from the Utah Jazz and the New Orleans Pelicans locked arms and took a knee together as basketball teams returned from coronavirus lockdown to participate in the NBA’s “bubble” season at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida, on July 30. The arena is in an isolation zone with strict rules created by the National Basketball Association to protect its players from the COVID-19 pandemic. Players were joined by coaches, referees, and game officials, as they took a knee before tipoff on Thursday evening. On some players’ jerseys, names were replaced with messages, such as “Equality,” “Ally,” and “Say her name.” Nearly 300 players across the NBA will wear a message on their shirts during the restart, according to reports. The players and coaches of rival teams the Los Angeles Lakers and the Los Angeles Clippers also knelt prior to Thursday night’s later game. Credit: Ben Golliver via Storyful
